The STAR2Cs project unites 8 partners across the 2 seas who are working to overcome similar challenges by improving and increasing climate change adaptation.
Climate change is already affecting Europe. Recent high temperatures, droughts, water shortages and increased rainfall have caused major impacts, which will become more frequent and severe throughout this century. Interreg 2 Seas Member States have developed national adaptation strategies that identify a range of actions that need to be taken. However, an ‘implementation gap’ exists between national strategies and real, tangible change on the ground as a result insufficient understanding of the long-term costs and benefits of adaptation measures and a lack of relevant tools to support decision-making and funding for perceived ‘future’ investments.
The STAR2Cs Solution
The Short Term Adaptation for long term Resilience to Climate Change (STAR2Cs) project was developed to tackle this implementation gap. Interreg 2 Seas member states have worked together to co-create the ‘STAR2Cs Solution’ by drawing on our diverse expertise, approaches and local experience in long-term planning.
Objectives
STAR2Cs’s primary goal is to overcome the ‘implementation gap’ currently faced in delivering local action to build adaptation capacity through three key objectives:

1) Determine cost effective adaptation options by integrating local scenarios with financial, social, technical, and nature-based delivery mechanisms.

2) Increase knowledge and ability of stakeholders to apply and adopt the STAR2Cs solution through participative planning and ‘future-proofed’ decision making.
